About The GSC

The Givat Shmuel Community is Israel’s largest and fastest-growing community of English-speaking students, young professionals, soldiers, newly-married couples, and other lone olim.

Originally a small collective of Bar-Ilan University students and alumni hosting Shabbat meals and sharing class notes, the community has more than tripled in size in the past five years, to more than 900 members looking for an oasis of sanity and support in an otherwise bureaucratic and tumultuous life in Israel.

The GSC - Givat Shmuel Community (R.A.) is a nonprofit that functions as the community's backbone.

Not an "organization" in the traditional sense of the word, The GSC fosters and creates community initiatives, and is dedicated to strengthening the English-speaking new-immigrant and temporary resident community of Givat Shmuel.

Who We Are

The GSC is made up of passionate volunteers from all parts of community life, self-organized into “committees” – action groups that focus on specific community needs.

Currently, we have approximately 35 volunteers on five different committees – Chesed, Communication, Shabbat, Social, and Torah – and an Executive Board dedicated to strengthening long-term community growth and development.

What We do

We do more than just organize potluck meals for Givat Shmuel Anglos. We offer lone immigrants a home.

In addition to planning numerous events (Shabbatons, Barbecues, Open Mic Nights, weekly shiurim, etc.), we work with local organizations to improve services for community members, and provide a plethora of resources to help Anglos navigate life in Israel (workshops, career mentorships, online How-to’s, and more).

The Technalities

The GSC – Givat Shmuel Community (R.A.) (ג’י. אס. סי. – קהילת דוברי אנגלית בגבעת שמואל ע”ר) is an Israeli registered not-for-profit organization dedicated to strengthening the English-speaking new immigrant and temporary resident community of Givat Shmuel. As listed in the Registry of Nonprofits, our objectives are:

  • To host cultural, charitable, and social activities and events, to build and strengthen the social ties and support network that lone immigrants are lacking in the community.
  • To provide and organize informational resources and events designed to help with navigating and acclimating into Israel and Givat Shmuel.
  • To improve community life, and encourage long-term community health, growth and self-sufficiency.
