Mandatory army service in Israel may be shortened once again.
A proposal was approved by the Knesset’s Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee. If the amendment passes a second and third reading it can become a law and would go into effect in 2020.
The last cut to army service requirements was made in July 2015 (see the 2015 policy here).
This proposal reduces army service from 32 months to 30 months. Army service for women will not be affected by this proposal, only men.
