It’s Israel’s big birthday this week, and is there a lot going on! Lets get right to it:

  • Tuesday is The GSC’s Tekes Yom Hazikaron – a unique memorial run by local community member that commemorates the olim we’ve lost in service to the country.
  • Speaking about honoring our soldiers – the Municipality finally authorized a 5% Arnona discount for IDF reservists. They havn’t publicized the actual criteria for approval yet, but we’ll let you know when they do.
  • Yom Haatzmaut is a country-wide party, and sadly we don’t have enough space to print everything happening. However, just in Givat Shmuel we’ve got a concert at 20:30 with Aviv Gefen, the lead singers form Shotei Hanevuah, Ravivo’s Project, IdoB & Tzuki, and a bunch of local groups; another concert at midnight with Shlomo Yidov, Ephraim Shamir, and Alon Olarchick in the basketball court on Zvulun Hamer St.
There’s also a special Carlibach Yom Haatzmaut night davening at the aforementioned basketball court at 19:00.
  • If you’re looking to get in shape for the upcoming Givat Shmuel Marathon, BIU’s student gym is open and offering a discounted membership to students at 159NIS.
