July is here, and the weather isn’t the only thing heating up! Here’s everything going on in Givat Shmuel:
- “Let’s Talk About Local Government!” Unclear about the purpose of local government and the importance of the upcoming municipal elections, or do you just want to make sure the Givat Shmuel Municipality is actually looking out for your interests? Adv. Moria Hadad-Rodrig is hosting a discussion about all this and more! It’s July 17th at the GSC House, just make sure to RSVP that you’re coming.
- Registration for school transportation begins today, and will close 31 July. The registration form is on the Municipality website.
- Israel BBQ is hosting what they’re claiming is the “largest 4th of July Celebration in Israel” at the Dancing Camel. Early-bird prices are 80NIS for all-you-can-eat, and 140NIS for all-you-can-eat-AND-drink.
- The Student Union put together a summary of all the regulations regarding exam season. Check it out here (in Hebrew). They’re also running their Rental service for calculators, dictionaries, etc.. It’s 15NIS for Agudah members, just make sure to go there during their limited, summer Office Hours.
- Speaking of exams, the University’s last-minute decision to limit the amount of bathroom breaks during an exam has been reverted for Moed Aleph, and the Agudah is working tirelessly to get rid of it for Moed Bet too. We’ll update you as events unfold.
- There’s a huge list work-study scholarships on the Agudah’s Facebook page, but deadlines for most of them are quickly approaching.
- As every year, we’re organizing a Kumzits and Kinnot for Tisha B’av, on 22 July. The location is still TBA, but we promise there will be air-conditioning.
- Magen David Adom is launching a course for volunteer medics and drivers in Givat Shmuel. You need to be accepted by an admissions committee, but its free (as in symbolic registration fee). Click here to apply.
- The annual, community-wide game of Mafia is scheduled for the end of the month. It’s a great way to meet people and blow off steam. Check out the Facebook Event for more info.
- There’s a food recall on Napolean’s Jalapeño Flavored Cream Cheese, so if you like your bagels spicy, make sure check the barcodes before you shmear.
- If you’re one of the people affected by El Al’s recent spate of cancellations, Wizz Air is offering ridiculously cheap Israel-London round-trip flights.
- Surprising literally nobody, Globes is reporting that the Tel Aviv – Jerusalem speed train will likely be delayed even past late-September.
